History In 2009 we set out to create a small, friendly
festival that was all about the music and
having a chilled out weekend of entertainment
that anyone can join in.
The first Folk Thing was a very small event
held in the lovely village of Ashby Folville.
We certainly achieved our aim because when
we asked what we could do to improve it the
overwhelming spirit of the feedback we
received was "perfect, don't change a thing".
So for 2010 and 2011 we kept the same format
and the number of attendees has grown.
2012 - The Urban Folk Thing Unfortunately for 2012 we are unable to use the
camping field at Ashby Folville. Sadly this
news came too late for us to find a suitable
alternative outdoor venue and apply for
another TEN licence.
Luckily, Pete, the landlord of the Salutation
Inn in Nottingham offered us the use of his
excellent pub so just for this year, in order to
keep the Folk Thing spirit alive, we are holding
a condensed, one day indoor event, an Urban
Folk Thing if you like, which will be completely
free of charge.
The Sal is better known as a rock music pub
but since it is an established live music venue
and also one of the oldest pubs in the country
it seems to us an ideal folk music venue.
